365 Project: June

"Mine is the Month of Roses; yes, and mine
The Month of Marriages! All pleasant sights

And scents, the fragrance of the blossoming vine,
The foliage of the valleys and the heights.
Mine are the longest days, the loveliest nights;
The mower's scythe makes music to my ear;
I am the mother of all dear delights;

I am the fairest daughter of the year."
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

"And what is so rare as a day in June? Then, if ever, come perfect days; Then Heaven tries earth if it be in tune, And over it softly her warm ear lays." - James R Lowell

"In summer, the song sings itself." -William Carlos Williams

"I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June." -L. M. Montgomery

You can see a slideshow of the 30 June photos here or view all of my 2010 photos to date here.

The three groups to which I contribute are 2010/365, EdTech 365/2010, and Project 365.

  1. No statistics? Which was your most viewed? I think my favorites are the macro of the purple flower, and of course you and sister at the Chairs.

  2. I was traveling, woman! But just for you...

    Most viewed was the poster, Fences, by a large margin. I added it to the Great Quotes about Learning and Change Pool, at the suggestion of a commenter, which probably generated more traffic.

    Other popular photos were "With a Little Help From My Friends," (where I tracked down the origins of some family heirlooms); "Fairy Ring;" and "Finest Silken Threads."

    Your favorites had respectable numbers - and they were my favorites, also :-)

  3. Your flower pictures are beautiful. Do you blow any of them up and frame them?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Thanks, William! I haven't framed any yet (so hard to choose) but I'm investigating having some of my photos put on to canvas.

  6. Thanks, Colby! I've never taken a photography class (although I hope to, one day) but if you use your camera a lot, you learn what works and what doesn't. Do you like to take pictures, too?

  10. Blanca, There are two small parks not far from my house, where I love to take photos of both the cultivated and wild flowers http://dmcordell.blogspot.com/2009/07/which-is-yes.html

    Every part of our country has amazing plants to see, "weeds" and wildflowers, if you just look around carefully.

  12. Keira and Houa, Because of the 365 project, I have learned to observe my surroundings more closely. Even the pods and seeds that are visible in winter have beauty in their shape and form :-)

  13. Fidel, Thank you. I would take pictures any way, because I enjoy it, but I appreciate feedback from other people.

  14. I do not see how you can take a picture a day without forgetting to. You have pretty good pictures there.

  15. Kyle, Sometimes my need to take a "picture of the day" gets me outside on less than lovely days (I hate winter cold!). Of course, there are also things inside my house to photograph. This is my second year taking part in the 365 project, and I haven't run out of subject matter yet!

  57. Well, my friends, you have certainly made my blog a much livelier place! Thanks for all your comments.

    Some random thoughts: although you speak of June as summer & vacation time, students in New York State have classes until almost the end of June. Of course, they don't return to school until after Labor Day; this year, their first classes will be on September 8!

    I take photos because I enjoy it. I'm amazed by the beauty and variety of nature, so that is frequently my subject. You should try photographing local wildflowers, buildings, landscapes, and, of course, your hobbies and friends & families. It's fun, and it provides a wonderful record of your community and your personal history.

    My pictures are saved on Flickr, so that my family and friends can share them. Sometimes strangers send me messages about pictures that have meaning for them - family gravestones, and scenes from their hometown, for example.

    You don't have to have an expensive camera. Ask your family for a digital camera as a gift, or save up money yourself to buy one, and just start clicking away. This is a hobby that can last a lifetime.

    I just wanted you to know the the pictures of June are beautiful. I really loved the picture of the boat. It reminded me of a painting that I saw a while back and it just brought back so many memories that were so happy for me. These photos are wonderful. Thank you for sharing them.
