In October

"There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October." -Nathaniel Hawthorne

Autumn has been a disappointment this year. Drought conditions and unseasonably warm temperatures have resulted in a very muted palette rather than incandescent splendor. On a pleasant ramble today through the Hudson valley region, my husband and I did manage to find some seasonal images. And the warm sunshine was rather nice...

All that falls shall rise again."

Love your blog. Stumbled on it via the esteemed Grandad. Quotes on a particular theme - what a brilliant idea. Liked all the pupils' opinions on what school should be about. I hope teachers are providing something more relevant now than they did in my frustrating schooldays!

Nick,

Nice to meet you!

Unfortunately, it seem that students'
educational experiences vary considerably, depending on the skills and philosophy of their individual instructors. An enlightened teacher can be the critical factor in what, and how, a child learns.

In our age, that translates into how comfortable the teacher is with educational technology. Until there is a mandated technology curriculum, there will be digital inequity.

As much as I dislike standardized testing, unless districts are compelled to assess and report these tech skills, I fear that curriculum will continue to be driven by budgetary and other concerns.

Sorry to come across all pompous and preachy, but I hate not being able to provide my students with tools and skills I know they'll need to succeed.

What. a. beautiful. slideshow.

I'm shopping for a camera to begin exploring that creativity, and seeing your own makes me eager.

What beauty you live in. Good for you.

(And yes, I'm years behind in my reader :( )

Clay,

Guess you are behind! I have some much less cheery pictures of November that I'll have to upload.

Autumn is my favorite season here in the Northeast. Unfortunately, some years it is fleeting and all too soon replaced by frost, ice and snow.

It never occurred to me that Korea might have similar seasonal changes (I'm a lot more provincial than I would care to admit). Shana's posting on the same theme was lovely.

The detail I get with my humble little digital camera is amazing. Even my artist husband is starting to admit its potential for recording scenes he might want to draw or paint later.

By all means, buy a camera and introduce us to your world and your vision.
