365 Project: February

We've had an atypical winter this year, with lighter snowfall, higher temperatures, and, for those in school, fewer Snow Days.

Since I've retired, my "photos of the day" no longer include images of students and classrooms. I now have the opportunity to explore nature a bit more and spend time examining local communities with, I hope, a keener eye.

Most viewed this month was Plowed Dirt Road, Adirondacks. My husband Tim's paintings are always popular, and deservedly so



Surprisingly, coming in second was Oh, Canada!



Followed closely by the nostalgic Country Store




I tried a "time warp" layering in Dreaming of Summer



And experimented with tiltshift for Red Building


My best macro shot was Fluff




Overall personal favorite has to be For My Valentine

365 Project: January

I continue into 2010 with new commitment to familiar themes: family, friends, nature, learning. From the Polar Plunge on New Year's Day to the conversations at EduCon, January presented me with opportunities to explore, examine, and experiment.

Another Journey, already begun.

Sentimental favorite, "Wildflowers in Winter 1/12/10" (a book of photographs published by my daughter)

Lessons Learned on a Winter Walk

There is a small park, not far from our home, where I love to wander with my camera.

In the summer, there are people strolling, eating lunch, reading, walking their dogs, fishing, and supervising children at play.

Today, I had the park to myself.

These are some of the thoughts I had, while enjoying a peaceful break from holiday preparations:



It's sometimes easier to strike out on a new path than to follow an old one.




Everything that passed this way has left a mark, although these signs can be difficult to interpret.



Still water freezes into static sheets; where there's a running stream, the ice dances on, and interacts with, the water.



With so much of the color gone from the landscape, it is easier to find beauty in unexpected places.




Each season carries within it the seed of the next.

365 Project: February

Month two is complete; with March, comes photo #60. Rather than running out of subjects, I'm finding it difficult to select a single picture each day.

I continue to raise my eyes, examine more closely, choose different perspectives, consider parts as well as the whole. There are a lot of life lessons being learned via my little digital camera!

The photo that received the most views and comments in February was Digging Out:



My personal favorite was The Gallery, because it captures my two children as they examine their father's paintings in a local art exhibition (and the Alamo painting was created for me, as a memento of our trip to NECC in San Antonio):
